Nationwide Wedding Photojournalism

The new nationwide trend in wedding photography is wedding photojournalism. Many brides know wedding photojournalism is popular, but are unclear what exactly is the difference between wedding photojournalism and traditional wedding photography. Many may ask what is the different in a wedding photojournalist and the wedding photographer that my cousin had 10 years ago. Many are interviewing wedding photographers who say they are photojournalistic in their wedding photography styles but indeed are not primarily photojournalistic. On the other hand there are many wedding photojournalists who also do some wedding group photographs, and may give some guidance in their wedding photography approach but most of their wedding photography is based around the true events and the emotions rather that posing to make the wedding photographs look natural when they indeed are not.

Documentary style wedding photographer, Laura Olson owner of In His Grace Wedding Photography based in Easton, Maryland believes that many traditional wedding photographers do have some photographs that would be considered to be true wedding photojournalism, however most of the photographs are posed and the formal images are not relaxed but very stiff. A true wedding photojournalist prefers to stay in the background and capture the wedding day and the emotions as they happen with out interfering, that is what wedding photojournalism should be.

Many brides fear and ask, “Do wedding photojournalists take any posed pictures”? Wedding photojournalist, Laura Olson, of In His Grace Wedding Photography would tell you that there are few true wedding photojournalists nationwide and around the world that do 100% photojournalism. Most wedding photojournalists will do some posed group shots and what Maryland wedding documentary photographer, Laura Olson does is a alone time with the bride and groom. This time give the wedding photojournalist the opportunity to still practice photojournalism even though a small portion of the photographs in the alone time may be directed or have the couple camera aware.

One may say now, “I like wedding photojournalism, how do I find a wedding photojournalist?
